The Gospel in Ten Scriptures

The gospel in 10 scriptures
The Bible is a big book—especially for those of us just starting to explore a relationship with Jesus. The Bible teaches us the Gospel (Good News), which is the foundation of how to have a relationship with God—the Creator of heaven and earth. Here are ten Bible verses about the Gospel.

The Gospel in Ten Scriptures

1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1
God created everything.

2

“So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.”

Genesis 1:27
God created us in His image, meaning to be like Him in caring for creation, making—from what He has made, and being in relationship with God and one another.

3

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.”

Genesis 3:6–7
Adam and Eve both chose to depend on their own understanding—and rebelled against God’s instructions to not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They had a perfect relationship with God, but their choice to not trust God, brought sin to the whole world. Now all are born with a heart that desires our own way instead of God’s way.

4

As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;
there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”

Romans 3:10-12
Even if we try—no matter how kind, generous, or hardworking—we all fall short of God’s standard of holiness (goodness).

5

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

Isaiah 59:2
Sin (any thoughts or actions that are not in line with God’s holy character) separates us from Him.

6

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:23
Our sin earns us forever death. But those who place their full trust/faith in Jesus will receive the gift of eternal life.

7

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. . .

Colossians 2:9
Jesus is fully God and fully man.

8

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

2 Corinthians 5:21
When Jesus died on the cross, He took our sin upon himself.

9

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

1 Corinthians 15:3–4
Jesus overcame sin and death when He resurrected from the grave. He then ascended into heaven and will come again to judge the living and the dead and renew all things (see 1 Pet. 4:5 & Rev. 21:3–5)

10

That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

It is Jesus’ work on the cross that saves us when we believe. All is by His grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

REFLECT:

Have you prayed and expressed your faith to God through the work of Jesus? If not, I encourage you to take that step and then share with a Christian friend and get connected with other believers in a local church near you.

How Do We Make Disciples?

One of Jesus’ final instructions to his followers was to “make disciples” (Matthew 18:18–20), but how do we know exactly what that means?
